A crown, often known as a cap, is a type of dental repair that replaces the outer layer of enamel on a tooth with new material. A crown is curved and sized similarly to a natural tooth, and it makes normal contact with the opposing tooth, allowing food to be chewed normally.
A dental bridge is made up of two or more crowns that are fastened to each side of the gap, as well as a filler tooth or teeth (called "pontics") that are sculpted to blend in with your existing teeth and are permanently put in your mouth.
Bridges are typically employed when the gap is big and the anchor teeth are strong enough to hold the bridge. To attach the bridge, the teeth closest to the gap must be prepared to have a portion of the bridge adhered to them, which means they must be shaved down. The bridge may have to be removed if the anchor (abutment) teeth become damaged, decaying, or diseased. Furthermore, if the bridge is to bridge a gap greater than four teeth, there is a possibility that the bridge connected to the anchor teeth will put too much pressure on them, causing them or the bridge to shatter.
Meanwhile, crowns are bonded to the healthy section of the injured tooth, making them a feasible alternative for teeth that have had root canals, been chipped or broken, or become discolored beyond repair. Crowns are tough and carefully created to match and fit in with your healthy teeth. They are strong and can endure the pressure of biting and chewing. Crowns do not necessitate the preparation of any neighboring teeth, hence they are frequently advised for tiny gaps, such as when only one tooth is missing.
